Ugh, expectation … it’s a cruel mistress. Sometimes you get what you wanted, but most times once the thing you’re waiting for finally arrives, you think, “Man, I really hoped it would be better.” And sometimes the reality is so badly out of sync with expectations, it’s almost wondrous. My expectations for Trainspotting 2 were tempered by the fact that 21 years had passed since the beloved original movie, and that period encompassed a fair bit of change for me. Capture Kill Release, on the other hand, showed up on my radar around early December 2016, and I finally got around to viewing it last night. Talk about badly out of sync! This turned out to be one of the worst movies I’ve watched in recent years. Knockout poster, though.

Movie Review: EXISTS – A sasquatch tale from Blair Witch Project’s Eduardo Sanchez that’s better than you might expect.
Being as The Blair Witch Project is my favourite horror movie, and I decided to Watch The Objective last week because it was directed by Daniel Myrick, half of the team who made that movie, it seemed to be the right time to watch Exists, a 2014 found-footage horror movie directed by the other half of the duo, Eduardo Sanchez.
Movie Review: CREEP
There’s something so fundamentally flawed about found-footage movies. I think most people know it, and if they don’t know it, they feel it. I’m not talking about the unthinking surface-level criticisms of “it’s dumb” or “it gave me motion sickness!”, I’m talking about the phoniness of the actual technique. I happen to think The Blair Witch Project is one of the greatest horror movies ever made – being as it is also one of the earliest popular examples of the technique, it stands to reason it doesn’t show much of the fatal flaw throughout the later ones, but it exists.
