Just back from the critically reviled Batman v Superman, and in a nutshell, it’s either terrible or just so-so, depending on what side of the fence you’re on, where the characters are concerned. I think a percentage of moviegoers who are satisfied by spectacle are likely to feel conflicted too, because while the action is decent, it does take a long time to get there. Movie Review: DEADPOOL

Not usually one for going to opening weekends for movies, I attended last night’s showing of Deadpool while visiting Iowa. As I silently predicted, the seats were rubbish. With it projected to do $117 million this weekend, and a strong rating on the tomatometer, getting to the movie – even the 9:45pm showing – 10 minutes before it started was always going to be tough. Movie Review: MARTYRS (2016)

I’m sure you, like me, wonder what the point is in remaking movies.  If a movie was great, what possesses a creative talent to feel it either needs to be updated, or bettered?  If a movie was poor, why not just let it fade into history?  To be sure, I’ve enjoyed a couple of remakes (Let Me In and Funny Games spring to mind), while simultaneously feeling the original was good enough by itself, but for every remake that produces a decent movie, there are many more that are just awful by means of poor realization and needless plot changes.  This kind of “I can do it different/better” thinking leads to work like Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes and RoboCop (2014) – and this is the case with Martyrs .

Movie Review: THE REVENANT

Just one year after the great (and apparently polarizing) Birdman, Alejandro Inarritu returns to the screen with his new offering, The Revenant, which is selling out theaters thanks to the newly revealed 2016 Oscar nominations.
